Investing.com – Spain stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Consumer Goods and Building & Construction sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 gained 0.71%.

The best performers of the session on the IBEX 35 were SOLARIA ENERGIA Y MEDIO AMBIENTE (BME:SLRS), which rose 6.01% or 0.47 points to trade at 8.28 at the close. Meanwhile, Corporacion Acciona Energias Renovables SA (BME:ANE) added 5.17% or 0.92 points to end at 18.72 and Grifols SA (BME:GRLS) was up 2.82% or 0.26 points to 9.41 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BME:BBVA), which fell 1.63% or 0.15 points to trade at 9.30 at the close. Unicaja Banco SA (BME:UNI) declined 1.57% or 0.02 points to end at 1.25 and Banco Santander (BME:SAN) was down 1.38% or 0.06 points to 4.40.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Madrid Stock Exchange by 153 to 56 and 16 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.18% or 31.29 to $2,672.29 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.64% or 1.89 to hit $73.61 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.33% or 1.74 to trade at $76.38 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.81% to 1.03, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.28% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.71% at 109.07.
